Everything You Need for Your First Airsoft Game Day
Planning your first airsoft game? Whether you’re playing at an indoor CQB arena or a woodland site, being prepared will help you stay comfortable, safe, and ready to enjoy the day. This checklist covers everything you’ll need before heading to the field.
1. Book Your Game
Before anything else, book your place at a reputable airsoft site. Check the venue’s rules, FPS limits, game times, and whether rental equipment is available.
If you’re new to the sport, renting equipment for your first game is often the best option before investing in your own gear.
We of course recommend West Midlands Airsoft
2. Eye and Face Protection
Safety always comes first.
You’ll need:
- Approved airsoft safety goggles or a full-face mask
- Lower face protection (mesh or padded mask) if not included
- Anti-fog solution to improve visibility
Never remove your eye protection while in a live game area.
3. Airsoft Gun
Most beginners start with an AEG (Automatic Electric Gun), as they’re reliable, easy to use, and suitable for most game types.
If you’re renting, your site will usually provide:
If you own your own equipment, make sure everything is fully charged and working before leaving home.
4. BBs
Bring quality BBs that match your site’s requirements.
Common options include:
Avoid low-quality BBs, as they can damage your airsoft gun and reduce accuracy.
5. Batteries and Gas
Nothing ends a game faster than running out of power.
Remember to pack:
- Fully charged spare batteries (for AEGs)
- Green gas or CO₂ cartridges (for gas-powered guns)
- Battery charging bag for safe transport if using LiPo batteries
6. Comfortable Clothing
Wear clothes suitable for running, kneeling, and crawling.
Recommended:
- Long-sleeve top
- Durable trousers
- Layers for changing weather
- Waterproof jacket if rain is expected
Camouflage isn’t essential for your first game—comfort matters more.
7. Boots
Good footwear makes a huge difference.
Choose boots with:
- Ankle support
- Good grip
- Water resistance (for woodland games)
Avoid trainers if possible, especially on uneven terrain.
8. Gloves
Your hands are one of the most common places to get hit.
Lightweight tactical gloves provide:
- Protection from BB impacts
- Better grip
- Improved comfort during longer games
9. Water and Snacks
Airsoft can be surprisingly physical.
Pack:
- Plenty of water
- Energy bars
- Fruit
- Sandwiches or lunch if the venue doesn’t provide food
Stay hydrated throughout the day.
10. Spare Magazines
Having extra magazines means less time reloading and more time playing.
Many players carry:
- 3–6 magazines
- A speed loader for mid-cap magazines
11. Carrying Equipment
You don’t need an expensive tactical setup.
Simple options include:
- Chest rig
- Belt setup
- Small backpack for breaks
Carry only what you need to stay mobile.
12. Personal Essentials
Don’t forget:
- Phone
- Wallet
- Identification if required
- Small towel
- Pain relief if needed
- Sun cream in summer
- Insect repellent for woodland games
Airsoft Etiquette
Great players aren’t just skilled—they’re honest and respectful.
Remember to:
- Call your hits immediately.
- Listen to marshals.
- Respect minimum engagement distances.
- Never remove eye protection in safe zones unless permitted.
- Help new players if you can.
Good sportsmanship makes the game more enjoyable for everyone.
