Why electric SMGs are the practical choice

An electric SMG gives you everything that makes AEGs great in a smaller, faster package. The battery and gearbox combination is reliable and weatherproof, so a cold winter morning or a damp woodland game does nothing to slow it down. Running costs are minimal, since you are only paying for BBs and the occasional battery charge rather than cans of gas.
The biggest practical advantage is magazine capacity. Electric SMGs feed from mid-cap or high-cap magazines holding well over a hundred rounds, so you spend far less time reloading and far more time playing. For fast indoor games where the action never stops, that is a real edge.

Battery power and easy upkeep

One of the joys of an electric SMG is how little it asks of you. Charge the battery, load a mag, and play. There is no gas to fill, no seals to fret over, and no cold-weather performance drop to plan around. That simplicity makes electric SMGs a brilliant choice for newer players and for anyone who just wants their gun to work without fuss.
Most run happily on a small lipo battery that tucks neatly into the gun, and a spare battery in your pocket will easily see you through a full day of skirmishing.

Popular electric SMG platforms

Part of the fun of an SMG is choosing an iconic platform. The Tokyo Marui MP5 is the classic CQB submachine gun, compact and controllable, while the P90 is the high-capacity bullpup beloved at indoor sites for its ergonomics. For modern 9mm-style builds, the G&G ARP9 is one of the most popular compact AEGs in the country, the KWA QRF series offers superb build quality, and the Grand Power Stribog brings a distinctive modern look with AR-style controls.
Each of these makes a fantastic CQB primary, and all are well supported with spare magazines and parts.

Choosing your electric SMG

Think about how you want to use it. If you want a do-it-all CQB primary, a full-size electric SMG with a high-capacity mag is ideal. If you want a light backup to a rifle or sniper, a compact PDW-style model keeps the weight down. Either way, an electric SMG is one of the easiest guns in airsoft to own and run.
Remember that solid-coloured realistic imitation firearms need a valid UKARA defence, or a two-tone finish if you do not yet hold one. For more recoil and realism, take a look at our gas SMGs, or see the full airsoft SMG range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are electric SMGs good for beginners?

Yes, an electric SMG is one of the easiest and most reliable guns to start with. It runs on a rechargeable battery with no gas to manage, performs consistently in any weather, and feeds from high-capacity magazines. That simplicity lets new players focus on learning the game rather than maintaining their kit.

How long does the battery last in an electric SMG?

A typical lipo battery will comfortably last a full day of skirmishing for most players, often longer. Charging is quick with a balance charger, and carrying one spare battery means you will never run flat mid-game. Battery life depends on capacity and how much you shoot, but running dry is rarely a concern.

What is the best electric SMG for CQB?

The Tokyo Marui MP5, the G&G ARP9, and the KWA QRF series are all superb CQB choices. They are compact, reliable, and quick to handle in tight spaces. The P90 is also a favourite indoors thanks to its high magazine capacity. The best one for you comes down to the platform you prefer the feel of.

Do I need a UKARA to buy an electric SMG?

To buy one in solid black or realistic colours you must be over 18 and hold a valid defence such as a UKARA registration. Without one you can still buy an electric SMG, but it must be supplied two-tone with more than half the body brightly coloured.
