G&G Full Metal SMC9 GBB

This thing is just plain fun. If you love the snap and response of a GBB pistol but want the stability and accuracy of a proper carbine, the G&G SMC9 is what you’re looking for. G&G basically took their excellent GTP9 pistol, kept the ergonomic polymer lower, and designed this full-metal carbine kit for it. The result is a lightweight, aggressive, and incredibly snappy GBB that’s an absolute monster in CQB, but has the legs to reach out in the woods, too.

It’s the ultimate “have your cake and eat it” gun. You get the ergonomics and controls of a pistol, but the platform of an SMG. For any player who loves to run and gun, this is a serious contender for your new favourite primary.

A GUIDED TOUR OF THE G&G FULL METAL SMC9

Let’s do a quick walk-around. Starting at the business end, you’ve got an aggressive-looking flash hider, but the important bit is that it’s sat on a 14mm CCW (counter-clockwise) thread. This is spot on, as it means you can screw on your favourite tracer unit or suppressor straight out of the box.

Moving back, you’ve got the 7-inch M-LOK handguard. It’s slim, made of metal, and gives you all the rail space you’ll need for grips, torches, and lasers. On top, there’s a full-length Picatinny rail for your optics, and it comes with a decent set of flip-up iron sights to get you started.

The upper receiver is all metal and feels rock-solid. The controls are where this SMC9 GBB really shines for me. You’ve got a non-reciprocating, ambidextrous charging handle, which is easy to rack from either side. The mag release and slide release are also fully ambidextrous, just like on the GTP9 pistol. G&G even made the ejection port cover swappable to the other side. Lefty or righty, it doesn’t matter, this gun will work for you.

The lower frame is, of course, the tried-and-tested GTP9 pistol grip. It’s polymer, which keeps the weight down, and it’s one of the most comfortable grips on the market. It also includes interchangeable backstraps, so you can get the fit just right for your hands.

Finally, at the back, you’ve got the stock. It’s a solid, side-folding stock that locks in place (open or closed) with a really positive click. Fold it, and you’ve got a large-format machine pistol for tight corners. Flip it out, and you’ve got a super-stable carbine. There are sling mounts on both sides, too, so you’re all set.

UNDER THE HOOD: INTERNALS & PERFORMANCE

So, how does it shoot? It’s a G&G SMC9 GBB, so the kick is crisp and fast. Because the bolt is housed inside the metal upper, it feels really snappy—less of a ‘clack’ and more of a solid ‘thump’ in your shoulder. The fire selector is on the side, giving you a very responsive semi-auto and a properly spicy full-auto mode.

But the cleverest bit is the hop-up. Forget faffing about and splitting the gun. G&G includes a special ‘key’ (it looks like a dummy round) that’s stored right in the pistol grip. You pop that key down the barrel, give it a turn, and you’re adjusting your hop on the fly. It’s a fantastic system, and it means you can dial in your shots in the middle of a game without even taking your gloves off.

COMPATIBILITY & UPGRADES

This is the question we get asked most: magazines. The SMC9 GBB comes with a long 50-round extended gas magazine, which is what you want for a primary. But, and this is the best part, it is 100% compatible with standard G&G GTP9 pistol magazines. If you already own a GTP9, all your mags will work.

Gas-wise, we recommend a green gas, like Nuprol 2.0. As for customisation, it’s already got a 14mm thread and M-LOK, so all your external attachments are good to go.
